Ever since 2020, most of us have learned that a lot of things that used to be completed in person can now be completed online. Many jobs are still full-time remote. Some people even skip attending family functions in favor of Zoom reunions.
But dog training is one of those services that sounds like it has to take place in person.
It doesn’t.
I do a lot of in-person dog training, and meet many dog families at my farm near Chicago. But, as a published dog training author, I am also contacted by dog families all over the US – and even some in other countries. For those individuals, I provide Zoom dog training courses, and teach them entirely online.
And it works.
It may seem counterintuitive. It’s not like dogs can use Zoom. How can dog training be effective if the dog trainer is not present?
But it’s actual easy to understand when you realize that dog training is not about training your dog. It’s about training you.
Dog training is about teaching you how to train your dog, because you are the one that your pet has to listen to. You’re the one that has to be consistent and work with them in a way that allows them to behave properly. In-person training is no different. Even though we’re there to show you what to do, we’re showing *you* what to do. You are still the one that is training your puppy.
Since you are able to learn these same skills online, remote dog training is just as effective as in-person training, because you’ll still be the one teaching them what they need to thrive.
